gradle : not able to build spring framework distribution

I have downloaded spring framework distribution from github and when I am trying to build the same using gradle I am getting compilation error. I ran gradle clean and gradle build commands in the directory spring-framework(the one that is downloaded from github) then I am getting compilation error.How is it possible that spring framework has some compilation errors?or If it cant be build how can i utilize the distribution in eclipse project
