What topics are included in Spring Core?

I am new to Java world and learning Spring framework for my project. I have to learn Spring Core first. I want to know which topics are included in Spring Core? Many are telling me that only Spring IOC and Spring AOP are part of Spring Core. But when I was seeing http://ift.tt/1fP3xak, I found that topics like Validation, Data Binding, Type Conversion, Spring Expression Language etc are also part of Spring Core. But as far I understand these will come into picture if I am going for Spring MVC. I am really confused. Please help me.
