Do I need to memorize xml file in Spring MVC?

I'm learning Spring MVC, there are many stuffs in Pom.xml files or Context files(the configuration files...like security, filter...) usually authors told me to copy and paste those files, or type them in. Do I need to memorize those xml files or just do as the authors said? Also, when I import the exercise files or change the project name(refactor), and when I run the project, there will be 404 error.
