Spring divide backend and FrontEnd

I dont know about Spring world, so I am confusing about architetural's design. I would like to crete a website with a webservice that will have to be used by APP. I would like to create a backend's project with a webservice (spring, hiberante, jpa2) and another project fronted that will use (JSF2). Do you thing that this type of project will be able to work, without go out from standard of Spring, or will be better create only one WAR with website and webservice. Please, give me some advices about this. tks you very much
