Out the Box Support For Rest authentication and authorization in spring security

I will please like to know if there are any talks with regards to an out of the box support for Rest API, Desktop authentication and authorization in spring security. Currently spring security is built with the assumption it will be used for web applications. i am aware of the extension points available within the framework but i still believe it will be easier to implement if there was an out of the box support for these types of apps.
