jasper report to create pdf and xls report of big data fetch from database (record is around 1 million)

please suggest the best way of creating jasper report in pdf and xls of big data fetch from database (record is around 1 million).i try simple coding of jasper report but it will handle only few record ,if record size is more that 2 thousand then it is give out of memory error.
